The Miolo Wine Group is one of the largest players in the Brazilian wine industry. It is also Brazil’s largest wine exporter. The company, which is headquartered in the picturesque Vale dos Vinhedos near Bento Goncalves, is also involved in a number of joint ventures outside Brazil, including in Chile, Spain, Italy and France. Given this scale of operations it is not surprising that Miolo also owns the greatest amount of land under vines in Brazil. However, as with so many other Brazilian wine producers, the history of the company can be traced back to humble origins, with a family which emigrated from Italy. In the case of Miolo, the family involvement in winemaking dates from 1897, yet remarkably the modern wine company was not founded until 1990. The renowned oenologist Michel Rolland is their advisor. It is in Serra Gaúcha in an altitude of 450 and 650 meters, the 35º south latitude, in Bento Gonçalves city, The Miolo Winery is located. In 1990, after years as a supplier of raw materials, the company decides to produce its own wine. Since then its products have gained international recognition. They are known to France, where the Revue du Vin de France published a page raved and some of them won medals coveted.
This wine presents a high colour intensity with ruby-red and purple tones. It has a fruit aroma, emphasizing red fruits and spices, perfectly integrated with the wood of the oak, giving the wine a touch of complexity. It is well structured in the mouth, with a striking presence of its tannins, reflecting the typical characteristics of the tannat grape, but at the same time rounded and smooth, giving the wine a velvety touch.
