The Seifried story began in 1973 when Austrian born Hermann Seifried and his New Zealand wife Agnes had a dream of making wines in New Zealand’s sunshine capital – Nelson. From very small and modest beginnings when Hermann and Agnes grafted the vines late into the night, to today when all three Seifried ‘children’ have returned home to play their part in growing the family business, Seifried Estate is a company devoted to sustainable winegrowing and producing the very best Nelson has to offer. Nelson is located at the top of New Zealand’s South Island and is surrounded by mountains to the east, west and south, while the Tasman Sea is to the north. Selection of premium new local vineyard sites continues to provide us with exciting opportunities and possibilities. From nursery through to vineyard, each site has been chosen and developed with varieties and clones most suited to the particular location. With the majority of fruit being Estate grown, we feel this ensures complete control over all areas of the grape production. Today, we harvest from six Estate producing vineyards (identified by three main soil types) across the Nelson region. Seifried Estate is a member of ‘Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand’ and was an early adopter of the programme when both the winery and vineyard audited programmes were first established in the New Zealand wine industry.
Bright straw-yellow colour with a suggestion of gold, pale on the rim with a vigorous bead of moderately fine bubbles. The bouquet is elegantly concentrated with good depth and intensity of white and yellow stonefruits, and white floral elements entwined with complexing brioche and yeasty notes. Dry to taste, the palate is tightly bound with a core of white stonefruits and florals, along with mineral notes interwoven with toasty notes. The mouthfeel has very finely textured with a creamy mousse and effervescence, balanced by refreshing, racy acidity. The wine has linearity and carries the white stonefruit and bready flavours to a long, lingering finish.
