Independently owned by the Goelet family, Taltarni has had a strong French influence from the outset, with initial plantings of Bordeaux varieties. Shortly thereafter, Taltarni extended its plantings to encompass grapes sourced from vines planted in 1868 in Great Western, allowing the winemakers to produce crisp sparkling and fresh white wines. The winery’s fundamental philosophy is to produce distinctive, well-balanced premium varietal wines with a recognisable regional and estate style, an approach fostered by the chief executive and the skilled Taltarni team. Taltarni’s reputation was originally founded on impressive, robust red wines. Time, evolving winemaking techniques and changing consumer demands have seen these wines evolve to become appealing, individualistic contemporary styles, crafted to be approachable when young, while retaining a structure and balance that rewards cellaring. It is the company’s intention, with the commitment of its distributors and importers, to position Taltarni as the flagship Australian brand, a label that spells integrity, superior quality and reliability.
Lovely Black current fruit highlighted with notes of chocolate and spice, this wine shows magnificent depth and persistence. On the palate the sweetness has married perfectly with robust tannins from the Pyrenees to produce a velvety texture. This wine has the elegance and structure.
